Helbling is representing a repeat client, a hospital in the Greater New York City region in conducting an executive search to secure a Vice President, Facilities Management (VP). The VP is a member of the executive team and collaborates with leaders from the governing board, management, medical staff, and clinical areas in the hospital’s decision making processes regarding construction, renovation, strategic planning, and facility management (overall maintenance and repair and central energy plant oversight). This will include but not be limited to the Master Facility Plan as well as program and environmental management.

As a member of the executive team, this position will lead teams to evaluate and prioritize projects; direct construction regarding performance and design; track project costs and schedules; develop project budget and timelines; mitigate risk while assuring compliance; and achieve quality and safety by adhering to regulatory requirements. Major areas of responsibility include management of minor construction projects, and coordination with Real Estate and Facilities on larger construction projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implements best practices for all aspects of campus facilities and ground operations to include architectural studies, programming, design, construction, and associated infrastructure and technology upgrades.
  • Provides budgetary stewardship and oversight is a priority for all above departments that includes contracts, consultants, bidding, and the RFQ and RFP processes.
  • Provides leadership for the Facilities Engineering Division, managing a staff of leaders, supervisors, and professional trade’s personnel.
  • Provides oversight and implementation of a multi-year capital budget process.
  • Acts in the capacity of Hospital Safety Officer, EOC chair, and administrative liaison to the Board of Directors Buildings and Grounds Committee.
  • Develops and implements operating and maintenance procedures and standards. Develops and implements appropriate auditing and monitoring systems to assure adherence to policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ensures facilities/properties are operated and maintained in accordance with established hospital procedures, The Joint Commission, as well as NYC, NYS & Federal (CMS) codes, rules laws, and regulations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Professional registration as an architect or engineer preferred.
  • American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) certification and/or a certification from the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) is preferred.
  • Professional work experience to include fifteen (15) years in construction/facilities project management of which eight (8) years must be associated to a healthcare facility.
  • Thorough understanding of Healthcare Design Guidelines, NFPA Codes, International Building Codes, Joint Commission requirements, and Department of Health Regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong skills in problem solving, project management, negotiation, consensus building, and leadership.
