Helbling is representing a contractor and repeat client in conducting an executive search to secure a Senior Vice President, Business Development (SVP) who will become a core member of the company's senior executive team and a catalyst in the company’s profitable growth and expansion. As an integral member of the executive leadership team, the SVP will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer, and possess the technical knowledge and capabilities to enhance relationships with pre-existing clients and lead the pursuit and successful development of new strategic customer relationships.

The SVP will play a pivotal role in developing and advancing the overall strategic direction of the company by helping to develop strategic growth initiatives, enhance internal processes and procedures, and leverage industry relationships and market knowledge to spearhead an aggressive growth plan. The number one goal of the SVP will be to maximize earnings growth of the organization. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Defines long-term organizational strategic goals, builds key customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, negotiates and closes business deals, and maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions.
  • Plays a leadership role to ensure a disciplined approach to the business development process by directing all aspects of business development policy, objectives, pursuit evaluation, and initiatives to increase revenue. Works with cross-functional teams toward overall project planning, execution, and client management. 
  • Development, change management, and selection of key business development team members. Drives forward thinking behaviors that support the financial growth of the company.
  • Networks effectively with various internal and external constituents. Facilitates communication between operations, finance, marketing, and other departments in matters related to potential opportunities and pursuits.
  • Possesses strong leadership and analytical skills to evaluate and solve complex financial, regulatory, and business challenges.
  • Monitors and interprets business and market intelligence to keep management informed on competitors’ activities, regulatory/environmental issues, development trends, market opportunities, and customer needs.
  • As a potential opportunity, assists in acquisition efforts and integration of acquired firms.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Master's Degree in Business Administration or advanced degree is a plus. 

  • Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of experience in Engineering, Construction, Automation/Controls, or a separate relevant field.

  • Experience in relationship selling, key account management, proposal writing/management, and ideally some experience in project delivery and operations management.

  • Must be able to initiate proposals, negotiate contracts, and close deals. 

  • Strong inter-personal skills and demonstrated success leading teams, and sharing rewards and recognition. 

  • Proficient in using a CRM system to manage teams and track status of opportunities and proposals. 

  • Track record and results will be key factors in the evaluation process.

  • Candidates coming from outside of the mechanical construction will be strongly considered.
